REQUEST FOR ACTION

To Item Number
City Council 3.5.*
Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by
Consent August 13, 2007 Gary Leinnoe, Chief Operator,
WWTP
Item Description Reviewed by
Lift Station Wet Well Safety Grates Terry Maurer, Public Works Director
Reviewed by
Lori T ohnson, City Administrator

Action Requested
City Council is requested to approve a budget revision in the amount of $26,500 for the sewer division to
allow safety grates to be installed on all existing wet wells (25 of them) in 2007 rather than waiting for
2008.

Background/Discussion
In recent years, we have changed our policy regarding new lift station construction. We now require
safety grates on the wet wells to prohibit accidental falls into the structure when working around them.
Our most recent lift station constructed in the River Park addition has such a safety grate included with it.
In 2008, retrofitting all of the existing 25 lift stations with these safety grates was included in the sewer
division budget. Due to the safety nature of this installation, we are requesting a budget amendment of
$26,500 to install safety grates in 2007.

The sewer division received four quotes that ranged from $23,336 to $39,338.

Financial Impact
Funding would come from sewer division reserves.

Attachments
· Copies of the four quotations

Action

Motion by _

Second by _

Vote

Follow Up

c: \Documents and Settings \jrniller\Local Settings \ Temporary Internet Files \ OLK3E\Lift Station Safety Well Grates 08 13 07 (3).doc
