Qualifications (cant.)

development of management strategies to improve and protect the creek.

Wenck conducted a detailed review of the Creek's critical hydraulic structures (three dams) and
operation impacts on Creek flooding. Wenck utilized XP-SWMM to model multiple flow reduction
scenarios including on-, and off-channel storage, diversion pumping of peak discharges to storm
tunnels, and operating changes at Grays Bay Dam.

Minnesota Steel Environmental Impact Statement

Wenck Associates assisted the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the U.S. Army
Corps of Engineers in preparing an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) on a proposed taconite
mine and processing facility. The project includes
dewatering and re-activating an existing mine pit as well
as taconite pellet production and a steel mill. Items
evaluated in the EIS include surface water quality and
quantity impacts including nutrient budget analysis,
stream morphology, wetland impacts, water balance/
water appropriations, and wastewater treatment options,
as well as other environmental issues such as stockpile
location impacts, air emissions, fish and wildlife
resources, and cumulative effects.

T:I05981001NonDegradation ProposallQnalifications.doc

The EIS project had an aggressive completion schedule
requiring effective project management in coordinating
Wenck's diverse scientific and engineering staff involved
in the project as well as coordination, interaction, and
communication with the project proposer and their
consultant, many local, state and federal agencies, and
the public.

9

. ~Wenck
