! ~"-(
( II
rIll River

MEMORANDUM

TO:

MAYOR & CITY COUNCIL
TOM ZERW AS, CHIEF OF POLICE
PHIL HALS, STREETIPARK SUPT.
LORI JOHNSON, FINANCE DIRECTOR
SANDY THACKERAY, CITY CLERK
STEVE ACH, CITY PLANNER
STEVE ROHLF, BZ ADMINISTRATOR

FROM:

DATE:

SUBJECT: JACKSON A VENUEIHO

.

As everyone is aware, Jackson Avenue has a newly installed concrete island at the
location where Holt Street intersects with Jackson Avenue. This has caused difficulty for
area residents who are accustomed to using this intersection to go east on Jackson Avenue
to Highway 169.

Please be advised that I have instructed the City Engineer to remove the concrete median
at this location. Additionally, I have instructed the City Engineer to move forward with
the reconstruction of Holt Street and I 93rd A venue as originally proposed in the Elk Park
Center project. This realignment could be completed in 1994, but most likely will not be
completed with blacktop until spring 1995. Accordingly, traffic will be able to move as it
has in the past (before the concrete median was installed) and Holt Street will be
realigned for traffic to use in spring 1995.

If there is one thing that we all have learned from this project, it is that the ultimate or
long range traffic improvement plans (i.e. Holt Street/I 93rd Avenue and Dodge Avenue)
should be installed as part of the original project and sections of street improvements
should not be delayed until a later date.

There will be a brief verbal update on 193rd A venue and Holt Street during the 10/24/94
City Council meeting.

.

P.O.
