Two items of concern
came up during the inspection and testing process that I felt should be
brought to your attention. The first item of concern is that the testing did
reveal asbestos particles in some areas of the roof. These areas are within 4
feet of all exterior walls. With the amount of asbestos present, we had to use
an asbestos consultant to write up part of the specs for the construction
document, for the removal of this asbestos. The second item of concern was
that we will have to re-roof 400 square feet of the newer part of the addition.
This part lies over the office and store room of the new addition. The reason
for re-roofmg this area is because of the additional insulation that will be
used on the meeting room roof, bringing the roof up approximately 4 inches
higher than the existing roof. With this condition, the water would be
trapped over the office and storage area. We did discuss the possibilities of
adding a scupper on the exterior wall to drain this area, or installing an
interior roof drain, but found that the cost would be about the same. We
agreed that building the area up with additional insulation, and applying a
built up roof product would be the best option. The next stage of this project
will be the bidding process. The advertisement for this bidding, will be in the
Elk River Star News, on October 12, 1994. On October 19, 1994, we will have
a pre-bid meeting at the Fire Station to discuss the project with contractors
who are interested in this project. On October 26, 1994, at 1:00 p.m., we will
be opening the bids.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this project, please call me at
441-4900.

.

roof-cs/council
P.O.
