r I ~\.(
( )I
Ill< River

ITEM 5.2.

MEMORANDUM

TO:

MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL

CLIFF SKOGSTAD, (\ (J
BUILDING OFFICIAL ~

FROM:

DATE:

SEPTEMBER 23, 1994

SUBJECT: PURCHASING A NEW 1994
PICK-UP TRUCK FOR THE
BUILDING AND ZONING
DEPARTMENT

.

Provided for you in this memo, is the spec sheet that I sent out to Elk River
Ford and Saxon Motors for bidding purposes of a full-size pick-up truck and a
mid-size pick-up truck. Along with the spec sheets are the bid prices received
from these motor companies. As you can see, the bid prices from Elk River
Ford revealed that the full-size pick-up truck would be approximately
$704.00 dollars less than the mid-size truck. These two items were priced
using the 1995 models. The Saxon Motors bid came in approximately
$220.00 dollars higher for the full-sized pick-up, compared to $1,234.00
dollars lower for the mid-size truck. In addition, Saxon Motors could not
meet the spec requirements; their full-size pick-up shows a 4.3 V6 instead of
a V8 engine. While these bids were coming in, I noticed in the paper that
Elk River Ford was having a big sale on their half-ton pick-up trucks. I
contacted Mr. Wade Turner of Elk River Ford in regard to this sale. He
stated that at this time we can purchase a 1994 Ford XLT package with
automatic windows, door locks, a 6 cylinder engine, and a 4 speed
transmission, for $16,308 dollars. This price would be $104.00 dollars less
than the mid-sized Chevy pick-up truck. I did contact Mr. Bob Lamb, from
Saxon Motors, for a price using the same spec.'s, regarding this special sale
price at Elk River Ford. The price for a Chevy would be approximately
$16,400 dollars. In talking with Saxon Motors and Elk River Ford, they
stated that $700.00 dollars can be taken off the mid-sized pick-up trucks ifwe
wanted to go with a manual transmission. As you can tell by the figures, the
bid prices came in relatively close. At this time, I would like to request to
purchase the 1994 Ford pick-up with the 6 cylinder manual transmission, for
$16,308 dollars.

.

If you have any questions, please call me, or, if you wish, I can attend
Monday night's City Council meeting.

truck.cslBZ
P.o.
