Stephen Rohlf
August 15, 1994
Page 2

.

We appreciate the early contact made with the DNR Natural Heritage and Nongame Research Program
and the subsequent incorporation of the information provided into the EA W. It should be noted that
efforts to save individual trees, although commendable, will not result in the retention of the intact oak
forest as it now exists onsite. These oak forest communities are disappearing in Sherburne County. This
particular forest was referred to as being "A beautiful woods" by the surveyor and the Minnesota County
Biological Survey (MCBS) Ecologist designated it as "one of the better oak forests on the Elk River Ice
Contact Formation."

Thank you for the opportunity to review this document. This project does not require the preparation of
an EnVIronmental Impact Statement (EIS) in our opinion. We look forward to receiving your record of
decision and responses to comments. Minnesota Rules, part 4410.1700, subparts 4 & 5, require you to
send us your Record of Decision within five days of deCIding this action. Please contact Don Buckhout of
my staff, at (612) 296-8212, if you have questions regarding this letter.

Sincerely,

~ cy (J5?~

Thomas W.
