<br />Council takes its show on the road for a retreat <br /> <br />Page 2 of 5 <br /> <br />HometoWl1SourCe <br />ECM Publishers <br />Capitol RQll,Il-9IlJ2 <br />Sport~J)repZonJ: <br /> <br />Posted: 2/1/07 <br /> <br />Council takes its show on the road for a retreat <br /> <br />The Coon Rapids City Council is going On the road. <br /> <br /> <br />by Peter Bodley <br />Managing editor <br /> <br />Council members and the city staff management team will have a two-day retreat at <br />the Riverwood Inn and Conference Center, Monticello, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 9 <br />and 10. <br /> <br />The retreat will focus on both short- and long-term goals for the city, according to <br />City Manager Matt Fulton. <br /> <br />The topic of the first day, Feb. 9 will be the 2030 Vision project, which began in 2005. <br /> <br />The council and staff management team will go over the findings of the 2030 Vision process prepared by <br />Springsted Inc., the city's consultant which facilitated the three community meetings from which the strategic plan <br />has been created. <br /> <br />The council will work with the management team to establish both short- and long-term Vision 2030 work plan <br />priorities, Fulton said,. <br /> <br />On the second day of the retreat, the council will set 2007 goals and objectives for staffto implement, he said. <br /> <br />The goals and objectives has been a process the council has undertaken early each year, usually in a work session <br />format. <br /> <br />The Vision 2030 draft report was compiled from data provided by residents during three citizen sessions in the <br />summer of2005 as well as a resident survey done in March 2005. <br /> <br />Eight areas of concern were identified: transportation, redevelopment, housing, open spacelrecreation, aging, civic <br />involvement and public discussion, community identity and focal point and cultural diversity. <br /> <br />"An underlying theme...focused on the high level of community pride and continued support for high quality <br />services documented in the resident survey," the Springsted report states. <br /> <br />According to the report, the Vision 2030 process has identified "five overarching goals" for the council to <br />consider. <br /> <br />.
