City of Elk River
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
Agenda Section Meeting Date
Worksession November 13, 2006
Item Description
Storm Sewer Oudet for 192nd Avenue & Lowell Street

Item Number
S.3.A

Prepared by
Phil Hals, Street Su erintendent
Reviewed by

Introduction
During the heavy rains of September 2005, a storm water containment pond in the rear yard of 11964
192nd Avenue rose above the banks and flooded the ground floor of that residence.

Discussion
The City Street Department, with the help of Terry Maurer, City Engineer, researched possible oudets for
this land locked pond. The most cost effective option is to connect a small diameter (8") pipe into the
Salk Middle School athletic field storm drainage system. This oudet would provide a positive oudet for
this ponding area and yet be small enough to meter the water into the school district system at a rate that
will not over tax their system.

Financial Impact

The cost for directional boring, manhole attachment and restoration will be less than $20,000. Funds will
come from storm water management.

Attachments
See attached map.

Action Requested
Staff requests City Council approval of the storm drain improvement for 192nd Avenue and Lowell Street
for a cost not to exceed $20,000.

Council Action

Motion by _

Second by _

Vote

Follow Up

C\Documents and Settings\tallard\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLKF\11-13-06MC storm sewer outlet.doc
