HOUSING STANDARDS <br /> <br />DIVISION 1. GENERALLY <br /> <br />Sec. 30-151. Definitions. <br />The definitions in section 30-1 are applicable in this article. Whenever .the terms <br />"dwelling," "dwelling unit," "premises" and "structure" are used in this article, they shall <br />be construed as though they were followed by the words "or any part thereof." <br />(Code 1982, 9 1007.02) <br />Cross references: Definitions generally, 9 1-2. <br /> <br />Sec. 30-152. Purpose of article. <br />The purpose of this article is to provide minimum standards to safeguard life, <br />health, property, and public welfare by regulating the occupancy and maintenance of all <br />rental residential buildings and structures within the city. <br />(Code 1982, 9 1007.00(1)) <br /> <br />Sec. 30-153. Scope of article. <br />(a) Generally. The provisions of this article shall apply to all buildings or portions <br />thereof used, or designed, or intended to be used, for rental residential purposes. This <br />article does not apply to owner-occupied single-family homes. <br />(b) Combination apartment house-hotels. Where any building or portion thereof is used <br />or intended to be used as a combination apartment house-hotel, the provisions of this <br />article shall apply to the separate portions as if they were separate buildings. <br />(c) Roominghouses and lodginghouses. Every roominghouse or lodging house shall <br />comply with all the requirements of this article for rental dwellings. <br />(d) Additions, alterations or repairs. For additions, alterations, or repairs, see the <br />building code. <br />(e) Relocation of buildings. Buildings or structures moved into or within the city shall <br />comply with the requirements in this Code and the building code for new buildings and <br />structures. <br />(f) Continuation of existing use. Rental dwellings in existence at the time of adoption of <br />the ordinance from which this article is derived may have their existing use or occupancy <br />continued if such use or occupancy was legal at the time of adoption of the ordinance <br />from which this article is derived, providing such continued use complies with and is <br />subject to the terms of this article. <br />(Code 1982, 9 1007.00(2)) <br /> <br />Sec. 30-154. Compliance with article. <br />It shall be unlawful for any person to erect, construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, <br />improve, remove, convert, or demolish, eq'uip, use, occupy, or maintain any building or <br />structure, or cause or permit such acts to be done, in violation of this article. <br /> <br />29 <br />
