Staff Updates

8.1. YMCA Update

Ms Johnson provided an update of the YMCA schedule. She introduced Facilities and
Project Coordinator Phil Nyvall who will work with city staff on the construction of the
YMCA. Ms. Johnson stated the YMCA revised its target opening date back to September
2008. She stated the first step in the process is to select an architect and the YMCA offered
to do the preliminary review for producing a short list of architects. She questioned how the
Council would like to proceed with selecting an architect.

Councilmember Farber suggested KKE Architects because they would keep with the same
theme of the current civil campus and they are working on the Library project. He stated it
would shorten the work they need to do because they are familiar with the city campus.

Mr. Nyvall stated it is a good idea to send out Request for Proposals to a list of 6-8
architects.

Councilmember Gumphrey stated he would like to see a short list of 5-6 architects
considered. He stated K.KE could be included in the list.

Councilmember Dietz suggested the committee narrow the list of architects down to a few
and then have the Council choose from that list.

The Council concurred.

9.
