The ERAAA Raises
FUNds at Its First
Annual FUNraiser
Luau on Lake Orono

ELK RIVER
ARE A
ARTS
ALLIANCE
..~

The guests were about to arrive as
Sara and Tom Hartman put the
finishing touches on their backyard
luau on Lake Orono Saturday,
August 19th.

The tiki huts were set, inflated aloha
signs placed on the yard, and
pineapples balanced on the table
. when partygoers started arriving at
4pm for the ERMA's first annual
FUNraiser. Executive Director
Laurie Beil had on her grass skirt, and greeted the arrivals with flower leis.

"More than anything, we wanted people to have a good time," said Sara Harman, explaining
the idea behind the FUNraiser. "Some people think the arts are boring. But we wanted to
invite the community in, and let them see that the arts can be fun."

Hosted by the Elk River Area Arts Alliance at the
lakeside Home of Sara & Tom Hartman

18684 Lander Drive
Elk River, MN 55330
(763)441-4292

Fun was the theme as pontoons took passengers on lake tours. A Moon Bounce, donated by
one of the Hartmans' neighbors, kept the children busy while parents bid on Silent Auction
items: jewelry, winterwear, spa gift certificates, massages, an antique pocket watch.

Of course, what is a luau without food? The Hartmans put on quite a spread with turkey,
ham, hot dogs, salads and refreshments. While diners sat down with full plates, Manny and
Deb Cortez, Pat Feit and the Command Performance Choir, led by Eileen Bowersox,
provided musical entertainment.

After much singing, boat rides and hoola hoop contests, the evening finally came to an end.
Nearly sixty people attended and $2,000 was raised for the ERMA through donations and
Silent Auction bids.

Thank you to the committee that put the event together and to all who contributed to its
success.

Manny and Debby Cortez perform for guests at the ERAAA's first annual FUNraiser
at Sara and Tom Hartman's place on Lake Orono.

The Eddy.
