Ice Arena Commission Minutes
August 8, 2006
Page 3

UTILITIES GENERAL MANAGER BRYAN ADAMS ABOUT UTILITY PRICE
REDUCTIONS FOR THE ARENA. MOTION CARRIED 6-0.

Mr. Czech presented information regarding Ice Arena rates for surrounding communities.
He stated that his recommendation is to raise the summer hourly prime rate from $125 an
hour to $135 an hour.

MOVED BY COMMISSIONER JOHNSON AND SECONDED BY
COMMISSIONER FARBER TO INCREASE THE SUMMER HOURLY PRIME
RATE FROM $125.00 AN HOUR TO $135.00 AN HOUR. MOTION CARRIED
6-0.

10. Commission Meetings

Commissioner Farber indicated that the Council discussed adding additional Ice Arena
Commission meetings. He stated that the Council was open to adding an additional four
meetings per year. He explained that with two meetings a year, if you miss one you miss
50% of the meetings. He indicated that he doesn't believe that the Commission can
accomplish much in two meetings a year. He stated that the Commission comes up with
great ideas but that it is difficult to recall these discussions six months later at the next
meeting. He believes the Commission needs to meet more frequently in order to be a more
effective Commission.

u

Commissioner Johnson stated that this is his tenth year on the Commission and during that
time, the Commission has not had to call many special meetings so he questioned if
additional meetings are necessary. He stated that if additional meetings are added he would
like to revisit the issue in a year.

Discussion took place on what topics would be discussed at the additional meetings. It was
the consensus of the Commission that the agendas items for the additional meetings would
be generated by the Commissioners and staff will be given ample time to prepare backup
materials.

MOVED BY COMMISSIONER HALGREN AND SECONDED BY
COMMISSIONER FARBER TO AMEND THE ICE ARENA COMMISSION
MEETING SCHEDULE TO INCLUDE TWO ADDITIONAL MEETINGS ON
THE SECOND WEDNESDAYS OF JANUARY AND NOVEMBER; FOR THE
AGENDA ITEMS FOR THESE TWO ADDITIONAL MEETINGS TO BE
GENERATED BY THE COMMISSION MEMBERS; AND TO REVISIT THIS
ISSUE IN ONE YEAR. MOTION CARRIED 6-0.

11. Staff Updates

Mr. Czech indicated that staff completed installation of the center grove along the north wall
and is in the process of reinstalling the boards and putting up the protective netting.

He stated that the installation of new benches in the locker rooms was put on hold. He
explained that since the project uses recycled material, it could be funded with landfill
abatement money. This project was expanded to include all eight locker rooms and has been
included in the 2007 budget.
