r I -'\)
( )j
till

ITEM 7.2.

TO:

MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL

FROM:

PATRICK KLAERS, CITY ADMINISTRATOR

DATE: 7/15/93

SUBJECT: SCHOOL STREET/JACKSON AVENUE
PROJECT UPDATE

The last update on this project was at least a
since the City Engineer will be at this
appropriate to get a verbal update from Terry
status of this project.

month ago
meeting, it
Maurer on

and
is
the

.

The last brief Council discussion on this topic was initiated
by Councilmember Farber, whereby he discussed what is believed
to be a common misconception with the public. This
misunderstanding is that if the Elk Park Center project takes
place, then Jackson and School Street will be four lanes in
both directions from the intersection to the next major
intersection. The actual improvement discussed by the City
Council is an improvement of only the intersection into four
lanes with a tapering affect from the intersection. The
overall plans must certainly incorporate a four-lane design on
Jackson from 169 to Highway 10 and on School Street from
Proctor to Highway 169. Since Councilmember Farber brought
this up at a Council meeting, I have discussed the situation
with Joni Astrup, from the Star News.

Since the last Council meeting where this topic was discussed,
the City Engineer has been in contact with the School District
regarding the newly hired School District's engineers review of
this intersection.

At an upcoming
timing of this
specifications for
this project.

meeting, the Council will have to consider the
project, the ordering of plans and
the project, and finalize the financing for

.

P.O.
