<br />It is the policy of the City that all employees have a right to work in an environment free from <br />discrimination and intimidation, including harassment. The mission of the City is best <br />accomplished in an atmosphere of professionalism that in turn is supported by mutual respect and <br />trust. The City expects all employees to work toward this goal. <br /> <br />Harassment based on a person's race, color, creed, religion, national OrIgin, sex, sexual <br />orientation, disability, age, marital status, status with regard to public assistance, veteran status or <br />any other protected class status may be unlawful and is strictly prohibited by the City. <br /> <br />Definitions of Sexual and Other Forms of Harassment <br /> <br />Harassment consists of unwelcome conduct based on a person's race, color, creed, religion, <br />national origin, sex, sexual orientation, disability, age, marital status, status with regard to public <br />assistance, veteran status, or any other protected class status that is interfering with your job <br />performance; or creating an intimidating, hostile, or offensive work environment; or when <br />submission to such conduct is: <br /> <br />. a condition of employment; or <br /> <br />. a basis for an employment decision affecting your job. <br /> <br />The City prohibits harassment in any form, including verbal, physical, and visual <br />harassment. <br /> <br />One form of prohibited harassment is sexual harassment. Sexual harassment includes <br />unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, sexually motivated physical contact or <br />other verbal or physical conduct or communication of a sexual nature that is interfering with your <br />job performance; or creating an intimidating, hostile, or offensive work environment; or when <br />submission to such conduct is: <br /> <br />. a condition of employment; or <br /> <br />. a basis for an employment decision affecting your job. <br /> <br />The City prohibits sexual harassment in any form, including verbal, physical, and visual <br />harassment. Some examples of conduct that may be sexual harassment under this policy include: <br /> <br />· use of offensive or demeaning terms which have sexual <br />connotations; <br /> <br />· telling suggestive jokes or stories and conversations <br />about sexual exploits, sexual preferences, and desires; <br /> <br />· jokes, cartoons, pictures, objects or stories which have a <br />sexual content; <br /> <br />38 <br />
