<br />'\.I <br /> <br />t t f/.e-r-I~ <br />:r~ rvl 1.3> <br /> <br /> <br />~. <br /> <br />TO: MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL <br /> <br />FROM: PHIL HALS, STREET/PARK SUPT. <br />DATE: MARCH 15, 1993 <br />SUBJECT: PLANT A TREE DAY <br /> <br />On March 8, 1993, I gave the City Council an outline of a <br />program from Winnetka Tree Farms that would allow residents a <br />20% discount coupon toward the purchase of nursery trees if <br />they attended a tree planting seminar that would be hosted by a <br />City staff member some time in April. <br /> <br />I have since contacted local nurseries and they have expressed <br />an interest in offering some tree specials of their own at such <br />a seminar. <br /> <br />My recommendation is that the City offer the evening seminar <br />and ask all three suppliers to attend with their price <br />discounts and possibly allow each one a ten minute time slot to <br />present their products. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Second, I would ask the City Council to endorse the program of <br />offering residents a $25 reimbursement for planting a tree, 1 <br />1/2" or more in diameter, of a City selected species, more than <br />ten feet, but less than 20' from the curb line of the street. <br />Each property owner would be limited to reimbursement for two <br />trees.
