<br /> <br />ITEM 6. 1. <br /> <br />TO: <br /> <br />FROM: <br /> <br />MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL . ~, <br />CATHY SCHMIDT, B & Z SECRETARY~~ ~ <br />MARCH 9, 1993 <br /> <br />DATE: <br /> <br />SUBJECT: <br /> <br />ORDINANCE AMENDMENT, SECTION <br />1008.14 "LENGTH OF DEAD-END ROADS" <br />BY THE CITY OF ELK RIVER/PUBLIC <br />HEARING <br /> <br />Section 1008.14 (5) (j), "Subdivision Design Standards" states <br />"the maximum length of a street terminating in a cul-de-sac <br />shall be 500 ft measured from the center line of the street of <br />origin to the end of the right-of-way." <br /> <br />The Elk River Plann~ng Commission reviewed this request at the <br />February 23, 1993, meeting where several concerns were raised. <br />These concerns included the safety factor if the dead-end road <br />is blocked, the possibility of impeding fire suppression <br />because a fire hose looses pressure the farther it is extended, <br />and snow plowing conc~rns. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />The Planning Commission continued the public hearing on this <br />request to the Mar9h 23, 1993, meeting which would allow the <br />Commission members ample time to discuss this issue at their <br />next workshop. A formal recommendation from the Planning <br />Commission can be exp~cted at the April 19, 1993, City Council <br />meeting.
