<br />. <br /> <br /> <br />Governmental Relations and Administrative Law <br /> <br />Lawyers in the government relations department practice in the le~islative and executive branches at the <br />federal, state and local ~evel, as well as m the administrative agencIes of government. <br /> <br />Representing Clients to Government' <br /> <br />In the broadest definition, lawyers in the governmental relations department operate as a skilled team to <br />deal with any problem a client is facing at any level of government. Members of the department serve <br />as legislative counsel to' a number of Minnesota and national corporations and business, trade, <br />professional. and municipal associations. In addition to the legislatIve counsel role, governmental <br />relations attorneys serve as general counsel to a number of trade association clients. . <br /> <br />The Work <br /> <br />. Typical areas of activity for the department's lawyers involve: <br /> <br />." Appearing before legislative committees; <br />." Helping clients organize and direct their legislative programs; <br />." Practicing before the Office of the State Hearing Examiner on proposed administrative roles; <br />." Working with the Metropolitan Council and its staff on. matters requiring their approval. and on <br />technical reports to be presented to other levels of government; . <br />." Negotiating with the U.S. Congress and federal agencies;. . <br />." Appearing before local planning commissions and city councils in connection with real estate <br />development projects; <br />." Researching the bid specification requirements and helping with bids, contracts with. governmental <br />agencies ; <br />." Drafting legislation to solve clients' problems under existing state or federal law; and . <br />."
