Economic Development Authority Minutes March 8, 1999 Page 2 . Director of Economic Development Paul Steinman indicated that if all parties are in agreement the process will move very quickly. He further indicated that the issue does not need to come back to the EDA, but will be scheduled for regular update as the process moves forward. Commissioner Klinzing expressed her concern regarding the gaps in the timing of the funding for residents that may need the money in order to purchase another home. Paul Steinman stated that Associated Developers will negotiate the purchase, including the money agreed to be provided to the homeowner. 6. Business Incubator Lease Extensions - Protectorcare and Watermark Director of Economic Development Paul Steinman indicated that two Business Incubator companies, Protectorcare and Watermark, are coming up on the end of their one year sublease term. Both companies had indicated at the beginning of their sublease term that they wished to have a minimum of two full years in the incubator program. Paul stated that with this in mind, it is recommended that staff negotiate and execute one year sublease extensions with the companies. COMMISSIONER THOMPSON MOVED TO AUTHORIZE STAFF TO NEGOTIATE AND EXECUTE ONE YEAR SUBLEASE EXTENSIONS WITH BUSINESS INCUBATOR COMPANIES PROTECTORCARE AND WATERMARK. COMMISSIONER BENDER SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED 6-0. 7. Other Business e 7.a. Economic Development Assistant Position Update Director of Economic Development Paul Steinman indicated that he and Finance Director Lori Johnson will be interviewing 3 or 4 candidates for the ED Assistant position the end of next week. These interviews were chosen from 9 potential candidates out of a total of 30 applicants. Paul stated that following the interviewing process, the request to hire the selected candidate will go to City Council. 7.b. Anoka-Hennepin Technical Colleae Expansion Director of Economic Development Paul Steinman informed the Authority of a public input meeting to take place on March 11.1999, regarding the Anoka-Hennepin Technical College expansion/relocation. Paul indicated that the college is looking at the Coon Rapids or Ramsey area, and that he and Commissioner Klinzing would be in attendance at the public meeting. 7.c. Discussion on the Updatina of the Strateaic Plan Director of Economic Development Paul Steinman indicated that during the Special EDA Worksession preceding the regular 3/8/99 meeting, it was the consensus of the group and recommended by Jim Brimeyer of The Brimeyer Group, Inc. to proceed with the updating of the 1997 Strategic Plan. e COMMISSIONER GONGOLL MOVED TO AUTHORIZE STAFF TO GET A PROPOSAL FROM JIM BRIMEYER TO UPDATE THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIC PLAN ADOPTED IN 1997. COMMISSIONER MOTION SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED 6-0.
