<br />Economic Development Authority Minutes <br />March 8, 1999 <br /> <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Director of Economic Development Paul Steinman indicated that if all parties are in <br />agreement the process will move very quickly. He further indicated that the issue does <br />not need to come back to the EDA, but will be scheduled for regular update as the <br />process moves forward. <br /> <br />Commissioner Klinzing expressed her concern regarding the gaps in the timing of the <br />funding for residents that may need the money in order to purchase another home. <br /> <br />Paul Steinman stated that Associated Developers will negotiate the purchase, including <br />the money agreed to be provided to the homeowner. <br /> <br />6. Business Incubator Lease Extensions - Protectorcare and Watermark <br /> <br />Director of Economic Development Paul Steinman indicated that two Business Incubator <br />companies, Protectorcare and Watermark, are coming up on the end of their one year <br />sublease term. Both companies had indicated at the beginning of their sublease term <br />that they wished to have a minimum of two full years in the incubator program. Paul <br />stated that with this in mind, it is recommended that staff negotiate and execute one <br />year sublease extensions with the companies. <br /> <br />COMMISSIONER THOMPSON MOVED TO AUTHORIZE STAFF TO NEGOTIATE AND EXECUTE <br />ONE YEAR SUBLEASE EXTENSIONS WITH BUSINESS INCUBATOR COMPANIES PROTECTORCARE <br />AND WATERMARK. COMMISSIONER BENDER SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION <br />CARRIED 6-0. <br /> <br />7. Other Business <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />7.a. <br /> <br />Economic Development Assistant Position Update <br /> <br />Director of Economic Development Paul Steinman indicated that he and Finance <br />Director Lori Johnson will be interviewing 3 or 4 candidates for the ED Assistant position <br />the end of next week. These interviews were chosen from 9 potential candidates out of <br />a total of 30 applicants. Paul stated that following the interviewing process, the request <br />to hire the selected candidate will go to City Council. <br /> <br />7.b. Anoka-Hennepin Technical Colleae Expansion <br /> <br />Director of Economic Development Paul Steinman informed the Authority of a public <br />input meeting to take place on March 11.1999, regarding the Anoka-Hennepin Technical <br />College expansion/relocation. Paul indicated that the college is looking at the Coon <br />Rapids or Ramsey area, and that he and Commissioner Klinzing would be in attendance <br />at the public meeting. <br /> <br />7.c. Discussion on the Updatina of the Strateaic Plan <br /> <br />Director of Economic Development Paul Steinman indicated that during the Special EDA <br />Worksession preceding the regular 3/8/99 meeting, it was the consensus of the group <br />and recommended by Jim Brimeyer of The Brimeyer Group, Inc. to proceed with the <br />updating of the 1997 Strategic Plan. <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />COMMISSIONER GONGOLL MOVED TO AUTHORIZE STAFF TO GET A PROPOSAL FROM JIM <br />BRIMEYER TO UPDATE THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIC PLAN ADOPTED IN 1997. <br />COMMISSIONER MOTION SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED 6-0. <br />
