<br />Elk River Economic Development Authority Minutes <br />November 9. 1998 <br /> <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />that the request is to have the city pledge to invest up to $250,000 in FDIC insured <br />certificates of deposit with area banks to create a pool of funds to attract and <br />retain industrial and manufacturing businesses in Sherburne County. Paul <br />Steinman indicated that staff is recommending approval of this request. <br /> <br />COMMISSIONER GONGOLL MOVED TO REQUEST THE CITY COUNCIL TO PARTICIPATE <br />AS AN INVESTOR IN THE SHERBURNE COUNTY BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM BY <br />PLEDGING TO COMMIT $250,000. COMMISSIONER DWYER SECONDED THE MOTION. <br />THE MOTION CARRIED 6-0. <br /> <br />7. Public Informational Meetino Reoardino Relocation of Post Office <br /> <br />Representatives from the post office were present to discuss the potential <br />relocation of the Elk River Post Office. The reason for relocation is due to the need <br />to expand the operation in order to enhance the quality of postal services <br />provided to the community. Paul Steinman noted that members of the HRA were <br />present this evening. He indicated that the HRA is in the process of completing a <br />comprehensive central business district plan study and stated that the current <br />post office is within the boundaries identified for the central business district. <br /> <br />Discussion was held by the EDA and the HRA regarding the relocation of the post <br />office. <br /> <br />President Duitsman opened the meeting to the public. <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />Concerns were voiced by members of the HRA regarding its desire to see the post <br />office remain in the downtown area. <br /> <br />COMMISSIONER GONGOLL MOVED TO CONSIDER A MOTION IN SUPPORT OF THE <br />POSTAL SERVICE MAINTAINING A PRESENCE IN THE CBD AND AUTHORIZING STAFF <br />TO WORK WITH THE POST OFFICE TO ENSURE ITS PRESENCE IN THE CBD. <br />COMMISSIONER HOLMGREN SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED 6-0. <br /> <br />President Duitsman closed the public hearing. <br /> <br />8. Other Business <br /> <br />There was no other business. <br /> <br />9. Adiournment <br /> <br />There being no further business, COMMISSIONER BENDER MOVED TO ADJOURN THE <br />MEETING. COMMISSIONER HOLMGREN SECONDED THE MOTION.
