The <br />damage to the trail lights by vandals earlier this summer has been <br />repaired and all of the lights are back in operation in Lion's Park. <br />There has been no contact wi th the Lion's Club, but it is antipated <br />that the Lion's Park would be available for practice field for soccer <br />and/or football this fall. <br /> <br />8. <br /> <br />Playground Unit Update <br /> <br />Phil Hals showed drawings of the proposed playground units for <br />installation of Baldwin Park, Barrington Park, and Lion's Park. Mr. <br />Hals also reported that the units are under construction in Baldwin <br />Park and Barrington Park and they are waiting for deli very of the <br />equipment for the Lion's Park. <br /> <br />9. <br /> <br />Area Wide Recreation Director Update <br /> <br />Community Education Director, Charlie Blesener, reported that the <br />Committee for the Region Recreation Director will meet again in <br />September. They plan to have proposals available for municipality's <br />approval sometime this fall. Mr. Blesener indicated that with the best <br />case scenario, the person could be on board in January or possibly <br />February, 1992. The two issues yet to be resolved by the Committee are <br />the makeup of the governing board and also where this person will be <br />housed. A subcommittee composed of Charlie Blesener, Ron Black, Pat <br />Klaers, and Carole McNaughton-Commers will be meeting in the near <br />future to discuss the job description for the Area Wide Recreation <br />Director. <br /> <br />10. <br /> <br />Development of Recreation Fields <br /> <br />Phil Hals reported that the construction of the athletic fields behind <br />the Community Education Center has begun with the City removing the <br />trees and rototilling the grass and sod for the first two <br />soccer/football fields. There has also been discussion, with the <br />School District regarding irrigation wells. It is Mr. Hals' opinion <br />two shallow wells will irrigate the Community Education Athletic <br />Complex. <br /> <br />The Park and Recreation Commission raised the question regarding the <br />tennis court construction at Salk School. Charlie Blesener indicated <br />that there is no construction taking place at this point and did not <br />have a reason for the holdup. <br /> <br />11. <br /> <br />Update on Development Activities at E & 0 Tool Land <br /> <br />Phil Hals reported that the City Street Crew has graded and leveled the <br />site , but there has been little or no activity at the site since mid <br />June. There is a concept drawing available showing two ballfields with <br />some parking and an open recreation field. Chairman Anderson indicated <br />that he would rather consider building three ball fields on the south of <br />the present ballfield complex, rather than building two fields on the E <br />& 0 property. The Park and Recreation Commission decided to consider <br />this item at a future meeting. <br />
