Chair Anderson opened the discussion on a Park and Recreation Director posi tion by recommending that the responsibility be school district wide for recreation and city wide as park director. He also stated that the recreation director should coordinate athletics and not arts and crafts. Dana Anderson supported the area wide recreation director. Phil Hals stated that the staff has concerns with the City's ability to fund the position due to State Aid cuts. Phil also questioned the possibility of funding a recreation director by increasing the fees that program participants pay. PARK AND RECREATION DIRECTOR JOB SCOPE Recre~tion Chair Anderson listed the following areas of responsibility for a Recreation Director: Coordinate and supervise youth and adult sports. Assist youth leagues in registration, collecting fees, scheduling fields and games. Verifying state and association regulations. Coordinate special events and tournaments. Coordinate multi-use facilities. Supervise scheduling of all School District fields and facilities for all youth activities. To take a block of time on each facility from Community Education to work out various youth schedules. 7. To serve as in information source for the public on park and youth " . t' aC"C1Vlvles. 8. To relieve volunteers as much as possible and make volunteering more "friendly" and less time consuming. Park Director Chair Anderson stated the Park and Recreation position should be responsible for all City parks and that it only makes sense that groups using the facilities be in charge of the maintenance as who would know better how to improve or upgrade a facility than the users. 1 .L . Give direction on maintenance, mowing, infields, outfields, weed control, turf management, all aspects from A to Z. 2. Work on property purchases.
