To Whom it May Concern:
Minnesota Off-Road Cyclists would like to propose constructing a reroute of the beginning
of section 3 at Hillside Mountain Bike Park in Elk River, MN.

Why do we need the reroute?
The section of trail to be rerouted is the initial climb into section 3. It is a steep climb
that gets eroded due to rainwater and snow melt draining, as well as rider wear and tear. It
needs to be repaired several times each dirt season. The reroute would be a much longer,
meandering trail that reaches the top of the hill more gradually to avoid the constant need
for repairs. This would also help a secondary goal of adding more trail milage to the park.

Who will build the new trail and how will it be built?
The current plan is to build the new trail with all volunteer labor. Currently there are
6 regular members of the trail crew plus others that join us occasionally. The Elk River and
Rockford high school mountain bike teams that have also expressed interest in helping out
with trail work. We would advertise the need for more volunteers. A lot of the work will be
with hand tools but we will need to rent some equipment such as a mini excavator and
mini skid steer to help in the construction. There is the possibility of a contractor being
hired by MORC to assist in the construction if MORC funds allow.

Proposal to reroute the beginning of Section 3
Hillside Mountain Bike Park – Elk River, MN
Minnesota Off-Road Cyclists
