They may sit on
benches to rest and view the lake and landscape or investigate two interpretive panels.
Panel .1—Importance of Wetlands to Sherburne County—(24 x 36)
One exhibit panel will provide information about how people have used the lake in the past.
A hinged lid on the panel will have an aerial photo of Clitty Lake in a high water year.
Visitors will lift the lid to see an aerial photo of Clitty Lake during the 1930s when the lake
was dry. A line beneath this photo will indicate that Clitty Lake dried up during the drought
of the 30s. A thought -provoking question beneath the lid will ask viewers, "If Sherburne
County didn't have rivers, lakes, and marshes, how would its history have been different?"
Panel 2—Marsh Habitat—(24 x 36)
A second panel will focus more on the natural history of the lake. This panel would focus on
the plants that make up the plant community and the typical animal species that frequent this
habitat. The plants and animals pictured might be viewed from this vantage point at different
seasons. Text and image would emphasize the interrelationships between the wetland and the
types of animals that live there. Inquiry will be used to help make people think about
connections.
Differing Points of View
1.
