Senior Center Advisory Council <br />Monday, August 20, 2007 <br />10 am Senior Center 350 Evans <br />Present were: Jay Grammond, Millicent Busch, Mary Heck, Clinton Yancey, <br />Sue Kostanshek and Annette Bonin <br />I. Sue called the meeting to order at 10 am. Minutes were reviewed <br />II. Financial statement — Reviewed. Sue explained the need for additional funds <br />for the new activity center. Clinton suggested that $500 from Bingo fund be <br />used if needed. Memorial funds will also be used to purchase items that will <br />be used by everyone, such as tables and chairs. <br />III. Old Business <br />A. August Main Event/Review of August events. — National Night Out was <br />very successful, over 100 people attended. Golf tournament will be held <br />August 28th. Card making class on August 13th was enjoyed by all. <br />B. Silvertones Report — Practice resuming in September. Practices on the 2nd <br />and 4th Mondays in the Activity Room. Optional practice will be on the 3rd <br />Monday. This season there will be new sheet music with more parts and <br />harmonies. Discussion of banner, buttons (I Love to Sing), and business <br />cards. <br />C. Community Ed. Report — New brochure comes out August 22 d. Classes <br />include swing and salsa dancing, water walking and knitting. Other new <br />offerings are Weather Forecasting and Global Warming. <br />D. September Main Event — Dessert and Coffee Concert on September 20th at <br />6 pm. Cribbage tournament on Sept. 19th. NewComers on Sept. 18'. Red <br />Hat Luau on Sept. 1 Ith at Silver Springs in Monticello. <br />E. Other — New activity starting — Vet�Qs Coffee and Conversation. September <br />25th meeting will feature a video "What is a Veteran. <br />IV New Business <br />A. Other Events in the Area — Senior Day Out, Sept. 26th in Zimmerman. <br />October 25th is the Meatball Dinner at the Methodist Church. <br />B. Outings — September Boat Cruise is already full. Grand Casino Mille Lacs <br />trip on Sept. 5th, Waconia Trip on Oct. 24th, Zumbro Falls on Nov. 7th. <br />C. October Main Event — OktoberFest co -sponsored by Senior Dining and the <br />Senior Center. Date is Thursday, Oct. 25th. Door prizes are usually German <br />themed food items. <br />D. Other — YMCA trip to St. Croix Valley YMCA on Sept. 6th. Fifteen free <br />spots for Elk River seniors. <br />V. Next Council Meeting — Monday, Sept. 17th at 1 pm <br />VI.
