The Elk River Vision
A welcoming community with revolutionary and spirited resourcefulness, exceptional service, and community
engagement that encourages and inspires prosperity

Request for Action

To
Parks and Recreation Commission
Item Number
10.2

Meeting Date
June 11, 2025
Prepared By
Jeff Shelby, Recreation Manager

Item Description
Playground Plan
Reviewed by
Jeff Shelby
Joe Stremcha

Action Requested
Discuss and create a plan for updating the cities playground amenties.

Background/Discussion
Our playground amenities are beginning to reach the end of their designed lifespans. We currently have 16
parks with playground amenities and half of those are due to be replaced in the next 5 years. A plan is needed
to manage this next phase in our parks. Playground amenities will need to be removed as they age out and the
commission is asked to help determine a course of action to manage these amenities. Factors that should be
considered are cost, changing demographics, need, and future development.

Financial Impact
Funding for the playgrounds will need to be included within the Capital Improvement Plan.

Mission/Policy/Goal
Meet changing needs - agile. Responsible for every dollar - good stewards. Opportunity to live, work, and
play.

Attachments
1. Interactive Elk River Park Map 2024_202402091023111102
2.
