Develop environmental greenways <br />Strategies: <br />• Preserve greenways identified in the 2004 City of Elk River – Natural <br />Resource Inventory as high-quality natural areas. Incorporate trails into <br />greenways along with new development and as opportunities arise. <br />• Utilize the conceptual greenway plan within the Natural Resources <br />Inventory to prioritize resources. <br />5. Provide natural experiences in parks. <br />Strategies: <br />• Incorporate natural areas (wetlands, prairies, woodlands) into new parks, <br />not as park dedication, especially in the northern part of the city. <br />• Consider habitat restoration in parks where feasible. <br />• Expand nature-based recreation programming. <br />• Implement and demonstrate environmental best practices in parks, <br />including: rain gardens; permeable paving; native plantings; recycling; <br />energy efficient buildings, lighting, and fixtures; LED lighting and solar <br />lighting; green roofs and green walls; and stormwater programs. <br />6. Encourage private conservation easements. <br />Strategies: <br />• Provide educational information to landowners on ecological and economic <br />benefits and available programs. <br />Page 136 of 240
