<br />. PenPals began in November 2005. This program allows teens from the Elk River Club <br />to write notes to teens at the Zimmerman Club. Theteens meet 6 times a year to interact <br />with their PenPal. The program allows the teens to gain social skills as well as learning <br />how to interact with others at the Clubs. 20-25 kids participate from the Elk River Club. <br /> <br />. Social Recreation is offered until 8 pm three days per week at the Elk River Site. Teens <br />can participate in Carpetball and Pool tournaments for prizes. Tournaments are arranged <br />with other Clubs and trophies are awarded. 15-20 kids per evening have participated. <br /> <br />. Junior Staff Development 5-teens were employed at the Elk River Site during the 4th <br />quarter of2005. These teens are trained in all Boys & Girls Club of America programs <br />and are called upon to carry-out the parameters of the programs. Junior Staff range in <br />age from 16-19 years old. These staff are asked to be mentors not only during their paid <br />. time at the Club, but are also asked to assist Club members during school hours with <br />questions or problems that may arise for the members. The Junior Staff is expected to <br />assist the younger members with homework projects. <br /> <br />Emily Giraud, Bryan Bonin and Joel Steen work regularly with the teens at the Elk River Site. <br />Emily has a degree in Sport and Recreation, while Bryan has college classes in political science <br />as well as experience working with developmentally disabled teens. Joel worked for the <br />Sherburne County Jail and Elk River Schools before joining the team at the Club. These three <br />employees are the cornerstone for the Teen programming in Elk River. <br /> <br />Program/Teen Services Director <br />Emily Giraud <br />Full-time employee dedicated to teen services 15 hours per week. <br /> <br />Assistant Program/Teen Services Director <br />Joel Steen <br />32 hour a week employee dedicated to teens 12 hours per week <br /> <br />Program Assistant Teen Services <br />Bryan Bonin <br />Part-time employee dedicated to teens in Elk River 10 hours per week <br /> <br />Holiday Inn Waterpark trip <br />Requiring 1 staff devoted to teens during the trip 4 hours total <br />Club transportation to event ($3.00 using RiverRider x 15 teens $45.00) <br />
