i
Elk River ,
Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO:
FROM:
ERMU Commission
Mike Tietz —Technical Services Superintendent
MEETING DATE:
AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
October 8, 2024
6.1g
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
ACTION REQUESTED:
None
DISCUSSION:
In September, locators processed 544 locate tickets. These consisted of 448 normal
tickets, 10 emergency tickets, 53 updated tickets, 12 cancellations, 7 meets, 5 boundary
surveys, 3 corrections, and 6 non -excavations. This resulted in a 23.9% increase in
tickets from the previous month and a 0.4% increase from the prior September.
Electrical technicians completed 450 service order tasks, updated the power bill,
addressed customer meter issues and any off-peak concerns.
• The Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) residential water meters and residential
electric meters continue to be installed in new services. The electrical technicians have
been busy changing out our Automated Meter Reading meters to AMI around the
system and recently completed the meter installations at several different apartment
buildings. Approximately 2,500 water meters and 1,600 electric meters are currently
active within our AMI system.
• For the month of September, staff did not run generators at the power plant. We will no
longer plan on running generators going forward based on the Commission's decision to
move forward with the decommissioning of the power plant.
• Staff will begin grading the East substation site the week of October 7. Sitework should
take approximately three weeks to complete.
• We have received 14 of the 26 NOVA reclosers that were ordered from the awarded bid
in April. This is a bit of a surprise as we were not expecting these until Q1 of 2025. This
should allow us to get a few more projects completed in 2024.
• Our monthly peak was 65.86 MW on September 16, at 3:41pm.
