MRPA Conference
Warren and Jeff will be attending the Minnesota Recreation and Park Association annual conference September 25-
27 in Mankato. This conference is an excellent opportunity to network with other professionals around the state
and learn about new trends and ideas to bring back to our department. We also earn continuing education credits
for our Certified Parks and Recreation Professionals (CPRP) certification.

Play My Way
Staff attended five city events over the summer to promote the survey as well as interact with youth and families to
have them “vote” in person on sandwich boards with photos of potential equipment for future playgrounds. The
program was well received by the public who thanked staff for asking for the “users” input. There are also three 3rd
grade classes at Parker Elementary and one 1st grade class at Twin Lakes Elementary that are participating in
completing the “Creator Packets” that kids can either draw or cut and paste playground pieces on. Staff will pick up
the packets at the end of the month. The online survey also closes on September 30th. The communications team
for the city will gather the results and put together a summary which will be presented in November to the
Commission.

Bradford Park
The Bradford Park development continues to move forward and will be incorporating the commission’s
recommendation to provide for the full trail around the water feature within the development. The developer plans
to break ground and begin construction in 2025.

Athletic Complex Framework Plan
Per the Commission’s discussion last month, the framework plan is being updated to reflect the new name of the
plan and to include the requested sound barrier. The updated plan will be brought back to the Commission for
review this fall.

Protective Netting at Elk River Golf Club
The city has been made aware of the protective netting issue at Elk River Golf Club as it relates to the parking area
at Woodland Trails. The planning department is reviewing the golf course’s CUP to determine if the netting meets
the requirements of the CUP and what course of action should be taken.
