GREAT RIVER REGIONAL LIBRARY - Explore. Learn. Connect.
Patron Services Supervisor Report
To: Elk River Board
CC: Margot Barry, Library Services Coordinator
From: Jeannette Burkhardt, Patron Services Supervisor
Date: July 23, 2024

Library Card Contest
In June we kicked off a Library Card design contest. Submissions were accepted through July 5th. We had
over 500 submissions to the contest (445 kids, 60 teens and 45 adults). The Communications/Fund
Development staff reviewed all the submissions and narrowed down the choices to reflect how well the
designs will transfer onto the cards and how well the design communicates “why do you love your library”.
We had some wonderful artists in our region. Staff had until July 17th to vote on the final selections.

Leadership Team
LST is starting to work on how to update the strategic plan and are hoping to present the process to the
GRRL Board in September for the 2026-2030 Strategic Plan. We would like to be more intentional about
incorporating city and county goals into the next strategic plan. We are also looking at national library
benchmarking tools, such as the Public Library Association’s Library Benchmarks, that could help shape our
long-range goals, as well as focusing on our Logic Model’s short, intermediate and long-term outcomes.

DEI Workgroup
We are in the process of starting a new DEI workgroup. The team’s purpose will be to define DEI at Great
River, evaluate progress and effectiveness of the DEI objectives that were in the 2022-2025 Strategic Plan
and review data from the 2023 User survey and 2023 staff DEI small group meetings. The goal is to have
the group recommend future goals for the library system that are foundational and long-range.
