(Table 601) <br />SPRINKLERS <br />• Approved automatic sprinkler systems in new buildings and structures shall be provided in the <br />locations described in Sections 903.2.1 through 903.2.12. (Section 903.2) <br />• An automatic sprinkler system shall be provided throughout all buildings containing a <br />Group S-1 occupancy where one of the following conditions exists: (Section 903.2.9) <br />• A Group S-1 fire area exceeds 12,000 square feet. <br />• 6,736 square foot fire area - Sprinklers not required. <br />• A Group S-1 fire area is located more than three stories above grade plane. <br />• Single-story - Sprinklers not required. <br />• The combined area of all Group S-1 fire areas on all floors, including any <br />mezzanines, exceeds 24,000 square feet. <br />• 6,736 square foot fire area - Sprinklers not required. <br />• A Group S-1 fire area used for the storage of commercial motor vehicles <br />where the fire area exceeds 5,000 square feet. <br />• Commercial Motor Vehicles are used to transport passengers or <br />property where the motor vehicle either has a gross vehicle weight <br />rating of 10,000 pounds or more; or is designed to transport 16 or <br />more passengers, including the driver. <br />• No storage of commercial motor vehicles - Sprinklers not required. <br />OCCUPANCY SEPARATIONS <br />• Single occupancy - Separations not required. (Section 508) <br />FIRE-RESISTANCE RATINGS <br />• The building elements shall have a fire-resistance rating not less than that specified in Table <br />601. (Section 602.1) <br />• Type VB = 0-hour fire-resistance rating. (Table 601) <br />• Building elements fire-resistance ratings not required. <br />• The exterior walls shall have a fire-resistance rating not less than that specified in Table 602. <br />(Section 602.1) <br />• Fire separation distance ≥ 30 feet = 0-hour fire-resistance rating.
