Elk River <br />Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING <br />TO: <br />FROM: <br />ERMU Commission <br />Dave Ninow —Water Superintendent <br />MEETING DATE: <br />AGENDA ITEM NUMBER: <br />May 14, 2024 <br />6.1h <br />SUBJECT: <br />Staff Update <br />ACTION REQUESTED: <br />None <br />DISCUSSION: <br />• Delivered six new water meters, installed a Smart Point module, and took curb stop ties. <br />• Completed 20 BACTI/Total Chlorine Residual Samples <br />o All confirmed negative for coliform bacteria <br />o Bacteriological/Disinfectant Residual Monthly Report submitted to the <br />Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) <br />• Completed 22 routine fluoride samples <br />o All samples met the MDH standards <br />o Submitted the MDH Fluoride Report <br />• Submitted Discharge Monitoring Report (DMR) for the Water Treatment Plants to the <br />Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA). <br />• Submitted DMR for the Diesel Generation Plant to the MPCA. <br />• On April 8, gates at the Lake Orono Dam were opened for the first time this season to <br />maintain the lake level. Incoming water flow to the lake was minimal compared to past <br />springs because of the lack of snowfall. Water department staff will continue to check <br />the lake level at the dam and adjust the gates accordingly throughout the season. <br />• Water main relocation work continues at Main Street and Highway 169 for the Highway <br />169 Redefine project. <br />• Well 7 is finally back in service after needed replacement of the failed motor and pump <br />last year that led to cleaning of the well screen, replacement of the variable frequency <br />drive (VFD), and working through chemical feed equipment issues after the well was not <br />used for several months. <br />• We will continue flushing fire hydrants through the end of May.
