Elk River
Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO:
FROM:
ERMU Commission
Mike Tietz —Technical Services Superintendent
MEETING DATE:
AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
May 14, 2024
6.1g
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
ACTION REQUESTED:
None
DISCUSSION:
• In April, the locators processed 482 locate tickets. These consisted of 405 normal tickets,
4 emergency tickets, 42 updated tickets, 16 cancellations, 7 meets, 5 boundary surveys
and 3 non -excavations. This resulted in a 98.4% increase in tickets from the previous
month and is a 13.9% increase from the prior April.
• Electrical technicians completed 540 service order tasks, updated the power bill,
addressed customer meter issues and any off-peak concerns.
• The Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) residential water meters and residential
electric meters continue to be installed in new services. The electrical technicians have
been busy changing out our Automated Meter Reading (AMR) meters to AMI around
the system. We have completed the initial setup processes with Allegiant and are
starting water meter installations. Staff has been shadowing the Allegiant technicians on
the first few installations to make sure that the contractor is performing the work to our
standards. We will continue to read AMR meters via drive -by method until we have fully
deployed all the AMI meters.
• For the month of April, staff did not run generators.
• Staff has replaced the aging regulator controls at two of the three regulator banks that
we have within the system. The third location in Dayton is presently waiting for
material. This one will be more involved as we will be rebuilding the entire regulator
bank. We are hoping to have this work done prior to summer.
• Great River Energy (GRE) continues to utilize their feeder tie with us at Station #14, bank
3 substation. They have indicated that they plan to use this tie through the month of
May while they finish demolition of their building on the GRE campus.
225
