The Elk River Vision
A welcoming community with revolutionary and spirited resourcefulness, exceptional service, and community
engagement that encourages and inspires prosperity

Request for Action

To
Housing and Redevelopment Authority
Item Number
6.4

Meeting Date
May 6, 2024
Prepared By
Brent O'Neil, Economic Development Director

Item Description
Furniture Placement at 724 Main Street
Reviewed by:
Cal Portner

Action Requested
Approve, by motion, placement of outdoor furniture at 724 Main Street by Furniture and Things (FT), Plants
and Things (PT), and the Downtown Business Association (DERBA) for public use during the 2024 summer
season, conditional on a written memorandum or agreement between the HRA, PT, FT and DERBA in a form
approved by the city attorney.

Background/Discussion
Staff has received multiple inquiries to add amenities to the turf space at 724 Main Street. Through DERBA,
PT and FT have offered to place furniture on the site in 2024 for the public to utilize. The proposal calls for
two standard picnic tables, two Adirondack sets, a hexagon table, and an oversize chair as an attraction to be
generously placed at no cost to the City or HRA. In this arrangement, this proposal reduces HRA liability and
places responsibility with DERBA, PT, and FT for successful implementation in 2024. We would also like to
expressly state appreciation at the meeting for the generosity offered by DERBA, PT, and FT in this initiative.

Financial Impact
As costs are being borne by partners of the HRA, any associated costs of the HRA would be incidental and
expected to be less than $500.

Mission/Policy/Goal
Work with citizens to achieve goals.

Attachments
1.
