Employment <br />Equal Employment Opportunity <br />The City of E1k River is committed to providing equal opportunity in all areas of employment, including <br />but not limited to recruitment, hiring, demotion, promotion, transfer, selection, lay-off, disciplinary <br />action, termination, compensation, and selection for training. Employees who participate in discrimination in violation of this policy are subject <br />to discipline up to and including termination. Retaliation against any employee for making a complaint <br />under this policy or assisting with investigations of complaints made under this policy is also strictly <br />prohibited. <br />Any person who feels that s/he has been discriminated against should contact the city administrator or <br />Human Resources. <br />Employment Status Definitions <br />Full-Time - A regular work schedule consisting of 2,080 hours per year. <br />Part-Time - A regular work schedule of less than 2,080 hours per year, generally o�Ter the 12 months. <br />Orientation Period - First six months of initial employment, follo��ing a promotion, reassignment or <br />transfer. <br />Probationary Period — Period of time as defined in a union contract. For paid on-call firefighters, the <br />probationary period is the first twelve (12) months of initial employment. <br />Re ular - An employee who has completed his or her Orientation or Probationary Period and works a set <br />schedule. <br />Seasonal - A position assigned to work part of the year, typically not for more than one hundred ttventy <br />(120) days in any consecutive 12-month period. <br />Tem�orar� - A part- or full-time position scheduled to work with a defined start and termination date or <br />duration of a special project T`he position generally does not qualify for benefits. <br />Elected or A�ointed Official - A person elected as mayor or council_��member or a person <br />appointed by the mayor and council to serve on a cit�� commission or board. <br />Aoolicant - Any person applying for a paid or �rolunteer position. <br />Page 2�66 <br />
