Minnesota State Arts Board <br />FY 2024 Arts Experiences <br />Program Overview and Application Instructions page 1 <br /> <br />Program Summary <br />Arts Experiences program purpose <br />This pilot program supports individuals and organizations in providing meaningful arts <br />experiences for Minnesotans within their communities. Funds may be used for a variety of arts <br />programming such as creating and/or presenting concerts, plays, tours, exhibitions, arts <br />festivals, public art, or other kinds of activities that provide Minnesotans with opportunities to <br />engage in arts activities that are instilled into community or public life. <br />Program outcome <br />Through this program, the Arts Board hopes to achieve the following outcome: Minnesotans <br />experience and benefit from the kinds of arts experiences and opportunities they value. <br />Applicants will need to design projects, and articulate applicant outcomes, that help achieve the <br />program outcome. <br />Review criteria <br />Proposals will be reviewed, and grants will be awarded, based on the degree to which the <br />applicant meets the following review criteria. (38 points total) <br />1. The applicant has an established track record of engaging Minnesotans in meaningful arts <br />programming. (12 points) <br />2. The applicant has a feasible plan to provide meaningful arts programming through which <br />Minnesotans will experience and benefit from the kind of arts experiences they value during <br />the grant period. The plan is rooted in the needs and interests of the intended audience <br />and/or participants, and will be carried out by a qualified team of relevant stakeholders. <br />(14 points) <br />3. Underserved populations benefit from the applicant’s arts programming. (12 points) <br />For organizations: The applicant’s board and staff reflect the underserved population(s) the <br />applicant’s arts programming is designed to benefit. <br />For individuals: The applicant has an authentic connection with the underserved <br />population(s) their work is designed to benefit. <br />The following are examples of underserved populations that arts programming might be <br />designed to benefit: residents and communities in greater Minnesota; individuals with <br />disabilities; veterans; individuals in institutions; individuals who are Black, Indigenous, or <br />people of color; LGBTQIA+ communities; older adults. <br />Use of funds <br />Arts Experiences funds may be used for activities whose primary purpose is engaging <br />Minnesotans in experiencing and benefitting from the kind of arts experiences they value. <br />Funds may be used for purposes such as: <br />• Expenses associated with creating and/or presenting concerts, plays, tours, exhibitions, <br />arts activities that take place at festivals, or other kinds of activities that provide <br />Minnesotans with opportunities to engage in arts experiences that are instilled into <br />community life. <br />• One-time, multiple, or yearlong activities. <br />• Professional development opportunities that increase the knowledge and skills of artists or <br />program providers, as long as the primary focus of the proposal is to engage Minnesotans <br />in arts experiences during the project period.
