Library Board Minutes
April 25, 2023
Page 2
The board discussed possible involvement in the parade along with the library but decided to focus on just
participation in Elk Riverfest this year. Mayor Dietz expressed concerns about patrons trying to get in and
out of the library during the parade. Mrs. Burkhardt said she will check with the GRRL about closing the
library for the couple of hours that the parade is happening. Once she knows an answer, she will reach out
to Mr. Hecker about acquiring proper signage.
The board also requested adding the downtown trick or treat event to the July agenda. They would like to
consider being involved somehow.
The board expressed interest in possibly holding an event at the library after the parade next year.
5.3 CIP Items
Six chairs by the fireplace were reupholstered by Colbath Upholstery.
5.4 Prepare Annual Report
Chair Blaske and Commissioner Boelter will meet to put a report together that will be presented to the City
Council on June 5`' at 6:30pm. Mrs. Burkhardt will also present the Elk River Library report at the same
time.
5.5 Interior Building Walk Through
Key items identified on the walk included:
■ One of the toilets in the front entry bathroom needs to be reattached inside the wall. Building
maintenance is working on this but it isn't an easy fix.
■ Two chairs in the kid's area need to be reupholstered and the caterpillar couch needs to be cleaned.
■ The main wall in the kid's area is now orange, the mural is gone.
■ There is a piece of weather stripping in one of the back windows on the northeast corner of the
library loose.
■ The cork flooring in the teen area needs to be replaced. The library staff and the library board agreed
that just matching the same flooring that is up around the front desk would be fine. Mr. Hecker said
he will reach out to Butch Pelarski, the Assistant Facilities Maintenance Superintendent to check on
flooring options.
5.6 Patron Services Supervisors Report
GRRL Patron Services Supervisor Jeannette Burkhardt presented Lori Lundstrom's report since she has
resigned from the Elk River Library.
5.7 Library Services Coordinator Report
Mrs. Burkhardt presented her staff report. She informed the board that five applicants are being interviewed
for the GRRL for the new Library Services Coordinator Report. Also, the Elk River Library will now have
to provide a plan for how the donation money will be spent from a large trust that contributes $12,000 per
year to the library. Mrs. Burkhardt is also working on developing a reading program at the library that could
be implemented next year connecting patrons to adult volunteers that would read with them.
p 0 1 E I f 1 5
NATURE
