VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />January 20, 1941 A meeting of the Village Council was held in the Municipal bldg .. Monday night Jan. 20th at 7 :30 P.M.Members present: M.C. Tesch, Pres; Frank Nickerson, and G.A. Bailey, Trustees; J. Clinton Walker,ClerkThe clerk was instructed to write a letter to Jas. Gray of the Minnesota W.P.A. headquarters and tell him that the Village is ready to go ahead with the installation of the water main on Thomas street and would like to have work started as soon as possible. George Tyler was present at the meeting to report on the case of Mrs. Grant Smith. Mr. Tyler said he maintained that hospitalization should be paid for by the city of which the patient was actually a resident of an not by the locality which is their residence for the purpose of poor relief. Mr. Tyler stated that he thought the case would go to the State Supreme court for the final decision. Dan Hjerpe was present at the meeting and stated that the old Model T. fire truck should be moved from the fire barn before the new fire truck arrived. Mr. Hjerpe said Dayton would like to have the old fire truck but that they didn't have sufficient funds on hand at present. It was decided to try and make a deal with Dayton taking a warrant for the amount. The Council ordered the truck put in running condition by Nickerson and Bros. Mr. Hjerpe stated that the fire dept. should have a trailer on which to carry their large ladder and also some poles for raising the ladder. He was instructed to do this work. An application for a Milk license was received from Irvin Moldenhauer. It was decided that a license would be granted upon an O.K. from Dr. K.iehel and Dr. Roehlke. A motion was made by Frank Nickerson and seconded by Art Bailey that the village pay David Davies $6.00 a month from July 1, 1940 to Jan 1, 1941 for his services in helping the village with its relief cases, motion carried. A motion was made by Frank Nickerson seconded by Art Bailey to pay Dr. Clothier $2.50 for relief order of Lyle Briggs. A letter was read from Eva Henning requesting that $2.00 be sent her for her personal use. Motion was made by Frank Nickerson and seconded by G.A. Bailey allowing this amount. A letter was read from Gladys Hulbert stating that her eyes were bothering her and that she had them examined by Dr. Golberg. A letter from Dr. Golberg said that Miss Hulbert needed glasses and also eye treatments. A motion was made by Art Bailey and seconded by Frank Nickerson to allow Gladys Hulbert $5.00 for glasses and $10.00 for eye treatments. Motion carried.
