Item #8.7 MEMORANDUM TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: Joan Schmidt, City Clerk DATE: December 19, 2005 SUBJECT: Meeting Dates ITEM Review the schedule of the regular meetings. BACKGROUND A schedule of the regular meetings of the City Council is kept on file in the City Clerk's office and posted on the principal bulletin board. I have attached the 2006 schedule for Council's review. Since the legal holiday for New Year's Day is Monday, January 2nd, our regular meeting per city ordinance (af!Y regular meetingfalling upon a holidqy shall be held on the next following business dqy at the same time and place) would be held on Tuesday, January 3rd. State Statute 645.44, Subd 5 states that in the case when New Year's Dqy, Independence dqy, Veteran's Dqy, Christmas dqy, etcetera, falls on S undqy the following dqy shall be a holidqy and when those same dqys occur on a S aturdqy the dqy before shall be a holidqy. No public business is to be transacted. If a regular meeting is to be held at a time or place different from that stated in the schedule of regular meetings, notice needs to be provided for a "special meeting." Notice is also provided of cancelled meetings. On this schedule I have also placed two special meetings, the Board of Appeal and Equalization for April 24rh which is fine with Sherburne County and October 9th for the Goal Setting Meeting with the Boards and Commissions if the Council wishes to do in 2006. Staff is asking that Council also consider when to have the Annual Report presentation. Several department heads will be gone on February 27th. Staff was considering the date of March 6rh with items on the Consent Agenda and the remainder of the regular meeting for presentation of the Annual Report.
