1 0 ATHLETIC FIELDS STUDY <br />City of Elk River, Minnesota DRAFT <br />DEMOGRAPHICS <br />The city of Elk River has grown signifi cantly since the 1970s and continues to grow steadily. The <br />city still has signifi cant buildable land and is projected to continue to add population for the <br />foreseeable future. <br />When DAAC was built, the city of Elk River was fewer than 9,000 people. The initial development <br />of OKAC and YAC occurred in the 1990s as the city grew from 11,143 to 16,447 and was about <br />half the size it currently is. In 2005 when YAC was expanded, the city was still under 20,000 <br />people.
