i
Elk River
Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO:
FROM:
ERMU Commission
Mike Tietz —Technical Services Superintendent
MEETING DATE:
AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
April 11, 2023
6.1h
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
ACTION REQUESTED:
None
DISCUSSION:
• In March, the locators processed 269 locate tickets. These consisted of 220 normal
tickets, 2 emergency tickets, 35 updated tickets, 3 cancellations, 3 meets, 5 non -
excavation, and 1 boundary survey. This resulted in a 228.0% increase in tickets from
the previous month and is a 17.7% decrease from the prior March.
• Electrical technicians completed 184 service order tasks, updated the power bill,
addressed customer meter issues and any off-peak concerns.
• On March 30, staff ran generators #1, #2 & #3 with no issues. Earlier in the month, staff
took the crankshaft web deflection measurements and inspected the crankcase on each
of the generators. No changes or concerns were noted.
• Technical services staff completed the replacement of our relay panel for both banks of
the West substation on March 27. There was a substantial amount of effort that went
into this project which took a little over a week to complete. Thank you to the team for
all your efforts in making it go so smoothly!
• Electrical Technician Jeff Murray and I attended a power quality training class put on by
Power Monitors, Inc. on March 21 in White Bear Lake. This training was on how to best
utilize our power quality recorders while performing power quality investigations.
• We have been troubleshooting a malfunctioning line regulator along Highway 10 on the
east side of town. This unit was rebuilt about a year ago and we are suspecting an
internal part has broken. We will have to wait for the soil conditions to improve before
we can remove it from service.
219
