i
Elk River
Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO:
FROM:
ERMU Commission
Chris Sumstad — Electric Superintendent
MEETING DATE:
AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
April 11, 2023
6.1g
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
ACTION REQUESTED:
None
DISCUSSION:
• Installed 3 new residential services, which involves the connection of a secondary line
once the customer requests service.
• Line crews worked with the metering department on completing the West substation
maintenance and upgrades. The substation was de -energized from March 13-20. We
utilized our other substations to back feed the circuits during that time.
• Our contractor wrapped up their winter tree trimming season on March 30. Our crews
will continue to trim into April.
• Joe Schmidt, safety trainer from Minnesota Municipal Utilities Association, was here
March 7 and 10 and conducted safety training on hazard identification/safe behaviors.
• 1 attended the American Public Power Association's Lineworkers Rodeo in Kansas,
March 31-April 1. Our three-man journeyman team made up of Matt Zipp, Alex Paschall,
Alex Bernier competed in all events. The team had a lot of fun and networked with
many line workers from all over the country.
• The March 31 snowstorm that included high winds caused a couple of outages on the
system. A tree on the line at one location and a broken jumper wire at another were the
causes.
• We had a fault on service from a transformer to a service pedestal the week of March
27. A temporary line was laid out to restore power and crews were able to locate the
fault and repair the wires.
• All staff attended respectful workplace training with instructor Kate Bischoff.
• Inventory and procurement staff have been working in the inventory area in the new
field services building on the final layout and organization.
218
