City of Elk River Design Standards <br />ha�re a si�-foot wide concrete sidewalk on at least one side. Other streets shall ha�re concrete <br />sidewalk as directed by- the Cin� Council. Concrete sidewalk shall be located one foot from the <br />property line. <br />14. All concrete sidewalks in new developments shall be 6" thick to allow for future driveway <br />locations. <br />15. All concrete utilized in public right-of-way shall be MnDOT 3A32 or 3A32HE (High Early) <br />mi� with a specified air content of 6.5%. Testing procedures shall be consistent MnDOT's <br />Schedule of Materials Control for Concrete Field Testing. If the public concrete curb or <br />sidewalk is damaged or there is need to replace during private construction, the private <br />contractor is responsible for completion of repairs. The following conditions must be met <br />before the replacement or repair will be accepted: <br />A. All work in the public right-of-way requires the use of traffic control in accordance <br />with MnDOT's Temporary Traffic Control Layouts Field Manual. <br />B. Damaged concrete sha11 be cut and removed. Straight line cut shall be made in the <br />e�sting control joints, not mid-panel. <br />C. Class 5 aggregate base shall be placed and compacted to a minimum uniform depth of <br />4 inches. <br />D. Forms shall be set to full depth of the concrete section. <br />E. Must set an inspection time with the City of Elk River 24 hours in advanced of the <br />pour. <br />F. Your testing company shall test the mi� for proper air entraining prior to placement. <br />City inspectors review the concrete ticket and observe the test. Failure of the test will <br />result in mix rejection unless amended and retested. <br />G. Concrete placement and finishing shall be in accordance with industry standards for <br />external concrete. No steel troweling is allowed. The finished product shall be broom <br />finished to match e�sting surfaces. <br />H. White curing membrane shall be applied to all e�posed surfaces, including the back of <br />curb, within 1 hour of final finishing. Cold weather curing and protection procedures <br />are required if freezing temperatures are forecasted within 1 week of placement. <br />I. The concrete shall be protected from traffic use for a minimum of 7 days, or 3 days if <br />high early concrete is used. <br />16. Temporary� turnarounds with concrete curb and gutter shall be constructed at all dead-end streets <br />which provide access to adjacent lots. Temporar� turnarounds behind concrete curb and gutter <br />will not be allowed. <br />17. Driveways on new residential properties shall have a maximum grade of 8.0%. <br />18. Bituminous trails shall be constructed as directed by the Ciry Council. The bituminous surface <br />shall be 10-feet in width. The trail section shall include, 6" of class 5 aggregate base, 2'/Z" of <br />wearing course bituminous (SPWEA240C). The aggregate base shall be placed and compacted <br />to 1-foot beyond the edge of pavement to a total width of 12-feet. The constructed trail should <br />have a tight finish with minimal voids. Depending on the site, conditions may warrant different <br />construction techniques and rypical section. All trails are subject to approval by the Ciry <br />Engineer. <br />19. Concrete pedestrian ramps shall be constructed at all locations where sidewalks and �sails <br />connect to a street having concrete curb and gutter. Pedestrian curb ramps shall be constructed <br />with a red colored detectable warning (truncated dome t��pe) panel. MnDOT Standard Plates <br />shall be followed.
