MayoY Dietz to administeY the oath of office to Officer Michael Welsh. <br />Background/Discussion <br />The patrol seYgeant position became vacant afteY SeYgeant Zabee took oveY the vacant Special Services SeYgeant <br />position due to SeYgeant Block's retirement in April of 2022. <br />After an internal process, OfficeY Michael Welsh has been selected to be pYomoted to the rank of patrol seYgeant. <br />The patrol sergeant is responsible for dailyT supervision of patrol officers. <br />Officer Welsh is exceptionallyT qualified with over 16 yTears of law enforcement experience. Officer Welsh earned <br />his bachelor's degree in Law Enforcement from Saint Cloud State UniversityT in 2005. From there he began his <br />law enforcement career �vith the UniversityT of Minnesota Police Department in 2006. He joined the Elk River <br />Police DepaYtment in August of 2020 and serves as a Field Training OfficeY and is a member of the SWAT team. <br />Michael has done an excellent job serving the depaYtment and the communityr. <br />Financial Impact <br />This position is currentlyT budgeted, and he will start at the first pay step per the Sergeant Labor Agreement.
