Elk River Public Library Board
October 25th, 2022
S. General Business
5.1 New Business
Page 2
a. Introduction of new Patron Services Supervisor Jeannette Burkhardt
■ Ms. Burkhardt introduced herself to the board. She is a 15 -pear
employee of the Great River Regional Library and has worked for the
Becker and Big Lake locations previously.
b. Forecast a list of annual goals and projects
■ Chair Boelter reviewed the library board's purpose in the by-laws.
The most recent version of the by-laws includes promoting the
library in the responsibilities of the board. Secretary Larson explained
to new members of the board that in 2021 the City of Elk River City
Administrator, Cal Portner, worked with the board to revamp the
bylaws. Ms. Lundstrom told the board that she attended the Elk
River Farmers Market three times over the summer to promote the
library but other than the opening day it was not busy. She also
attended an event called Community Connect at the Elk River High
School. Chair Boelter said that it would be a good event for board
members to attend. Secretary Larson asked the board and Ms.
Lundstrom if they still want to have Ms. Lundstrom send a list of
upcoming events the library staff are attending to Ms. Larson
regularly so she can distribute it to the board members. The board
stated that they would like to receive the list. Ms. Lundstrom said she
will send the outreach opportunities and programs to Ms. Larson. If
the board members choose to attend, they would contact Ms.
Lundstrom directly. If there are three members attending an event at
the same time however, Ms. Larson would need to be notified so she
could post a quorum notice. Chair Boelter confirmed the board
would like to add a brainstorming session to the January meeting
agenda for 2023 ideas of events the library board members could
create/attend with library staff and possible city staff. One idea for an
event would be to read books to kids after an Entertainment in the
Park event put on already by the City of Elk River.
c. Director Michael Hecker available for questions
■ Mr. Hecker introduced himself and explained what his role is within
the city. He gave a list of projects that have been completed with the
Active Elk River campaign including Orono Park, the Furniture and
Things Community Event Center, the downtown dock at Rivers
Edge Commons.
d.
