<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />JANUARY 30, 1909 <br /> <br /> <br />The Common Council met at the store of R.E. Dare on Saturday evening January 30, 1909. <br /> <br />Members present: <br /> F. Salter, President <br /> L. Pollard, B. Carr, J. Virgen Trustees <br /> O.J. Whiteman, Recorder <br /> <br />Meeting was called to order by the President at 8:00 p.m. <br /> <br />The Bond of O.J. Whiteman, recorder was presented on motion by L. Pollard and seconded by <br />B.Carr was accepted. <br /> <br />The Bond of H.J. Herbner, Treasurer on motion by Virgin seconded by Pollard was accepted. <br /> <br />Ordinance No.54 to regulate the sale of intoxicating liquor, repealing ordinances 27-39-45-4?-48 was <br />read and adopted on motion made by Virgin and seconded by Pollard, and ordered published in the <br />Star News. <br /> <br />The question of the amount at which liquor license should be placed was considered and motion by <br />Pollard and seconded by Carr. was placed at $1,800.00, eighteen hundred dollars. <br /> <br />Blanchette’s application for a license to sell intoxicating liquors published in the Star News was <br />considered and on motion of Virgin, seconded by Pollard was granted in the sum of eighteen <br />hundred dollars and recorded ?? to have license ready at ten o’clock a.m. Monday, February 1, 1909. <br /> <br />The Bond of J.C. Blanchette in sum of $2, 000 on motion by virgin and seconded by Pollard was <br />accepted. <br /> <br />On motion made by Virgin and seconded by Carr to rebate twenty-five dollars to C. Hulbert on <br />license, and to issue new license for two pool tables at fifteen dollars each was carried. <br /> <br />Motion in regard to license Henry Thorpe for running bowling alley to refund the fifteen dollars he <br />had paid and to issue a new license of thirty dollars for each alley, was carried motion being made by <br />Virgin and seconded by Pollard. <br /> <br />Application of J. Hamlet for license to run a ? presented on motion by virgin and seconded by Carr <br />was granted. <br /> <br />Committees appointed by President: <br /> Committee on roads and sidewalks <br /> S. Pollard <br /> J. Virgin <br /> Committee on fire apparatus and street amps <br /> <br />
