<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER MEETING CITY COUNCIL <br />AUGUST 6, 1928 <br /> <br />The Regular Meeting of the Village Council was held at the Library Room on Monday, August 6, <br />1928 <br /> <br />Present – Thomas E. Beck, President, L.L. Bishop, E.E. Scott, Trustees. W.F. Chadbourne, Clerk <br />10 business men present <br /> <br />Meeting called to order by the President at 8 o’clock P.M. <br /> <br />A petition was presented to the Council signed by 24 merchants and business men asking that the <br />council order all hitching posts to be removed from the fronts of their business houses and rings <br />instered in the curbing where requested. <br /> <br />On motion duly made and declared carried by the Pres. their request was granted. <br /> <br />L.G. Nelson representing the E.R. Power and Light Co presented a statement as to the cost of <br />erecting a White Way on the principal street of Elk River. After considerable discussion in regard to <br />the subject and explanation of the situation in regard to the subject of financing street repairs by the <br />Pres. no action was taken for the present. <br /> <br />In regard to the proposition of erecting a building for public use including Library, Council room, <br />Engine House and jail. Plans already been prepared and cost estimated. <br /> <br />The Council deemed it a matter of economy and a neceassity to have such a building erected <br />immediately decided that the only proper way to raise the funds to pay for such a building would be <br />to call a Special election and vote to raise the money by issuing bonds to the amount of 7000.00 for <br />that purpose. <br /> <br />Unanimous consent of the council to this proposition was given and a special election will be held in <br />the near future for that purpose. <br /> <br />The following resolution was adopted by the council resolution: That the sum of two hundred and <br />fifty dollars be contributed from the General fund for aid to the Co. Fair for 1928. Motion carried <br />unanimously. <br /> <br />The E.R. Library Assn presented their annual report read and placed on file. <br /> <br />The following named ladies were re-appointed trustees for the Library Assn. Mrs. S.R. Houlton, <br />Mrs. Peter Jack and Mrs. T.M. Olsen <br /> <br />The following bills were presented and on motion allowed. <br />H.R. Caley Hdw Co waste 60.55 <br />H.R. Caley Hdw Co goods for street 46.85 <br />W.H. Clements st. work July 38.50 <br />Star News printing 15.56 <br /> <br />
