VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER MEETING CITY COUNCIL
JUNE 4, 1928

The Regular Meeting of the Village Council was held at the Library Room on Monday, June 4, 1928

Present – Thos E. Beck, President, Geo Cornelius, L.L. Bishop, E.E. Scott, Trustees. W.F.
Chadbourne, Clerk

Meeting called to order by the President at 8 o’clock P.M.

Moved and carried that the clerk be instructed to draw an order of $35.00 on the General Fund to
part pay the Fire Dept. expenses to attend convention at Fergus Falls, Minn.

The Committee on additional street lights for Princeton Street reported progress.

The Committee on resurfacing Main Street reported that they had received figures as to the cost per
square yard for material and labor. Thought it best to ascertain the number of square yards to be re-
surfaced before going any farter.

On motion it was voted to have the County Surveyor make a report as to the number of yards to be
covered.

The question as to the economy of erecting a building on the Lot donated to the Village by Mr.
Houlton for the purpose of the Fire Apparatus was discussed favorably as the Village is paying
about $500.0 yearly rent. It was thought better to pay that much interest and erect a building more
suitable for the Village purposes and combine Library, Council Room and Engine House. The
matter will receive the early attention of the council.

For the benefit of strangers and the looks of things it was thought best to have our City Marshall
wear a uniform the same as other cities. Motion made and carried that a uniform be purchased for
the marshall.

On motion W.H. Clements was appointed weed inspector.

The attention of the council was called as to the Fire hazard in the alleys. While some excellent work
has been done, there still remains some menace that the State Fire Marshall will notice in his visit in
the near future.

The following bills were presented and on motion allowed:
E.R. Power and Light Co repairs on street lights 5.50
Maurice Goodwin tapping water main of Wm Ott 2.00
W.H.
