<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER MEETING CITY COUNCIL <br />JANUARY 11, 1921 <br /> <br />Special meeting of the Village Council held in the offices of the Elk River Lumber Co on Jan 11, <br />1921. <br /> <br />Members present J.H. Virgin, President, Bert Carr, Chas Selhauer, D.W. Longfellow, Trustees, M.P. <br />Williams, Clerk <br /> <br />Meeting called to order by the president at 7:30 p.m. <br /> <br />Minutes of last meeting read and approved. <br /> <br />At the request of the Clerk Mr. G. Maprupe was present in regard to the Conduct of the Pool Room <br />operated by him. The Council laid down rules which must be complied with. <br /> <br />Mr. Griswold of the Elk River Power and Light Co was present at the request of the Council. It was <br />the desire of the public that the council call a meeting so that the residents of the Village could be <br />present. <br /> <br />The matter was brought up regarding the large increase in the Light for the month of Dec as in <br />many cases the citizens light bills had trebled \[sic\] during the month of Dec. <br /> <br />Mr. Griswold stated that he was very much surprised and he urged all customers to appear at his <br />office and he would see and try to find out the real trouble. <br /> <br />Mr. Griswold also put up prices in comparison with other villages and cities but that was no reason <br />he should have any increase without the consent of the people of the village. <br /> <br />Mr. Andrew Davis represented the Elk River Commercial Club and he stated that he was willing to <br />accept Mr. Griswold proposition and also urged all citizens whose bills were too high to report at <br />the Elk River Power and Light Co office and have mistakes rectified. <br /> <br />The matter was disposed of by a suggestion made by Mr. Andrew Davis that all differences should <br />be brought direct to the office of the Power Co. <br /> <br />Motion made by D.W. Longfellow and seconded by Bert Carr that a warrant be issued by the clerk <br />for $359.00 to the Minnesota Loan and Trust Co for services rendered in the issuance of $26,000.00 <br />waterworks bonds. <br /> <br />Motion was accepted and passed by the council. <br /> <br />Motion made by Chas Selhauer and seconded by Bert Carr that a federal syren \[sic\] with a double <br />phase motor be purchased from W.S. Nolt Co and ordered the clerk to purchase same. The clerk <br />was also ordered to issue a warrant for $423.50 running two years according to their contract on or <br />before. <br /> <br /> <br />
