<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER REGULAR MEETING CITY COUNCIL <br />JANUARY 13, 1920 <br /> <br />Regular Meeting of the Village Council held at the Office of the Elk River Lumber Co on Tuesday <br />th <br />the 13 of Jan 1920 <br /> <br />Members Present – J.H. Virgin, President, Bert Carr, Trustee, and William Norval, Clerk <br /> <br />Meeting called to order by the President at 8 o’clock p.m. <br /> <br />Minutes of the last meeting read and approved. A committee from the Fire Dept composed of the <br />following members J.F. Ludvik, Chief, Fred Ayers and Dan Madsen, the Chief laid before the <br />Council the following suggestions. <br /> <br />That there should be a Fire Alarm, either a siren or a bell to give the necessary alarm of Fire and also <br />explained that the alarm given through the telephone was not reliable as was proved by the last <br />alarm of fire and he also made a request that the council should purchase at least two to six rain or <br />rubber coats for the use of the men at fires. <br /> <br />The council after considering the matter, gave the committee to understand that these demands <br />would have the attention of the council at once and that a committee from the council would be <br />appointed to ascertain the cost of these articles and report to the council. <br /> <br />The application of the Standard Oil Co for a permit to construct and operate a service station to <br />supply gasoline and Kerosene oil, the sum to be located on lot one (1) block three of the Village of <br />Elk River Minn after due consideration the council passed the following Resolution. Be it resolved <br />by the Village Council that they hereby grant permission to the Standard Oil Co of Indiana to <br />construct and operate a gasoline and oil service station to be located on lot one (1) in block three (3) <br />in the Village of Elk River Minn but that it is further understood by the council that such service <br />Station or building be constructed to conform to the Village ordinance in such cases provided. <br /> <br />th <br />The Bill of J.T. Plante for goods supplied to Mrs. Geo Martineau (a poor person) from the 30 of <br />July to Nov 1918 was duly considered. It appeared that the goods were supplied to Mrs. Geo <br />Martineau, with the understanding that the Council would allow payment of the Bills but for some <br />cause they were never paid, the present Council took the matter up with Mr. Plante and finally <br />decided that it was only right to pay the amt of the bills ($65. 25) and change the same to the poor <br />fund after further discussion it was duly voted on and the bill allowed. The following bills were duly <br />acted upon and ordered paid. <br /> <br />1850 The Elk River L Co supplied Mrs. Martineau $9.20 <br />1851 William Giff work on Street 2.00 <br />1852 J.F. Ludvik supplies for Fire Engines 7.77 <br />1853 J.T. Plante goods to Mrs. Martineau in 1918 65.28 <br />$84.25 <br /> <br />No further business. Council adjourned. <br /> <br />
